Media Statement of the St. Louis Police Officers’ Association

The St. Louis Police Officers’ Association strongly supports Governor Mike Kehoe’s call for an independent investigation into potential Sunshine Law violations by the St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners. We remain firmly committed to the state-appointed Police Board structure and have confidence in Governor Kehoe’s leadership and his appointments to the Board.

As a native of St. Louis with a family history of service in the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Governor Kehoe has a personal understanding of the challenges facing our officers and the importance of public confidence in police leadership. That understanding makes his commitment to transparency and accountability especially meaningful.

Our police officers are held to high standards every day, and those entrusted with overseeing the department must be held to those same standards. We commend Governor Kehoe for recognizing that independent oversight strengthens the system rather than undermines it, and for taking steps to ensure that public confidence in the Board and its decisions is maintained.
