JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon announced today that he has appointed Jerry Lee, the retired Chief of the St. Louis County Police Department, to the St. Louis City Board of Police Commissioners.

Lee, who retired as chief in 2009, served with the department for 38 years. During his career, he commanded multiple divisions within the department, including operational support, patrol, staff services, criminal identification, security services, tactical operations and drug enforcement. Lee was appointed Chief of Police on June 1, 2004.

Lee served on the training, ethics, awards and professional standards committees for the Missouri Police Chiefs Association. He is past president of the Eastern Missouri FBI National Academy Associates; past president of Law Enforcement Officials of St. Louis County; past chairman of the St. Louis Area Police Chiefs Association; past member of the Midwest High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Advisory Board; and past member of the Law Enforcement Policy Advisory Board.

In addition, Lee served on the boards of several organizations, including the St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy; the St. Louis Area Regional Response System; the Salvation Army of St. Louis; the Missouri Peace Officers Association; and the St. Louis Regional Crime Commission. He also is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum and other organizations for law-enforcement professionals.

“During his long and dedicated career, Chief Jerry Lee provided invaluable service to the people of the St. Louis area,” Gov. Nixon said. “His experience and insights will be a tremendous asset on the board of police commissioners.”

The St. Louis City Board of Police Commissioners is responsible for oversight of the operation of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. This appointment will be subject to approval by the Missouri Senate.
